However, the study of the roots of words in each scientific field and their history is among the main concerns regarding the nature of that field. Through posing some questions in this regard, this paper aims to investigate the meaning of Iranology and its history and propound some suggestions regarding the search for a correct method to employ in related studies. At the same time, the author emphasizes that, through considering the meaning and history of Iranology, Iranologist-researchers need to avoid the common partial views in some of the Iranological studies in the past and distinguish between valid and invalid related studies in order to attain the optimal result, that is, the correct concept of scientific Iranology. استفاده از واژه ایران شناسی چنان متداول شده است که دیگر نیازی به بررسی این عبارت دیده نمی شود؛ حال آنکه واکاوی ریشه کلمات در هر دانشی و بیان تاریخچه آن از سؤالات اصلی درباره چیستی کلیه علوم است. این مقاله با طرح پرسش هایی در این خصوص درصدد بررسی معنای ایران شناسی، تاریخچه آن و نیز طرح پیشنهادهایی درباره یافتن روش درست برای تحقیقات ایران شناسانه است. نویسنده در عین حال بر این موضوع تأکید دارد که محقق ایرانشناس باید با درنظر گرفتن معنا و تاریخچه ایران شناسی از یک جانبه نگری متداول در پاره ای از مطالعات ایران شناسی در گذشته پرهیز کند؛ تحقیقات درست را از نادرست تشخیص دهد تا از ره آورد آن به ایران شناسی علمی دست یابد. https://is.iranology.ir/article_710130_233eed328db1a546a9506820fedf8e8e.pdf
