The Marble Mansion, one of the architectural treasures of the Pahlavi I era, is located within the Ramsar Cultural-Museum Complex, which operates under the supervision of the Mostazafan Foundation’s Museum and Cultural Institute. Ramsar, as one of the cities founded during the first Pahlavi period, embodies all the defining architectural characteristics of that era. Comparing historical and aerial photographs reveals the city’s rapid urban transformation over time.
Situated at the heart of the Ramsar complex, the Marble Mansion is surrounded by other museum buildings yet retains its original form remarkably well after 84 years. This research, based on document analysis interpreted through a historical approach, aims to investigate the architectural structure of the mansion. Findings indicate that the building represents a fusion of ancient Persian and European architecture. Comparative studies reveal striking similarities between the Marble Mansion’s plan and that of the Babol Municipality Building (Baladeh), both constructed during the Pahlavi I period. The mansion’s form recalls Achaemenid architectural traditions, reflecting Reza Shah’s conscious revival of pre-Islamic motifs as a means of fostering national identity and cultural pride.
